Out of contact

We've been moving and we haven't been able to get online.

Alyssa and I had a wonderful time on her birthday Sunday night. Odin went out of town with Grandma Paula to Roseburg so we got to sleep in. We missed him so much! He came back with a bandage on the full length of his arm and when it fell off in the bath and we looked at it, yeah, it's along his whole arm, but it's barely a scratch. Still good that they covered it, but he doesn't even seem to notice.

I have limited time right now, so I'll put more up later!

We're moving! (Againt)

So we got a new apartment.

We moved out of Valley River Court (VRC) to live at McKenna Estates and be close to school. We ended up moving in with Dad because we hated it and it would be cheaper to break the lease and live with Dad relatively free than stay there, plus we could be near dad to help him recover from his upcomming surgery. Still, we've always missed our old neighborhood and regretted leaving. So we were driving around Sunday and had been talking all week about all the nostalgia of the things we liked while living there and had also been discussing asking them if we could move back in September when we were done staying at Dad's. They told us that if we wanted to move in this week, we could sign a year lease for $665/month rather than the standard $850, so we took the deal. Rather than being in our lease through September having graduated in June (next year) and having 3-4 months of uncertain ability to pay rent (Will we get a job right out of college?), we'll be there until June which is when we graduate. It works out better because if we get good jobs we can renew our lease, and if we don't, or get good jobs out of town, we can choose not to renew. The timing is amazing and so is the price. The floor plan and layout of the apartment is identical to our old one, it's just two buildings further down the complex. The view is good, there's plenty of sun on the deck for our plants, and the carpeting is brand new. We're so happy.

Alyssa had her rehersal last night for her composition recital and said the instrumentalists did an amazing job. They barely need more practice and said they loved her piece. I can't wait to hear it.

I've finally finished a song I've been writing on my guitar and I only need to add some lyrics. The other members of my band (Alyssa and Emily) really like it and are eager to try it out. I'm happy with how it's coming along. Maybe I'll upload a small snippet of part of it so others can hear it.

Anyway, that's all for now.

Goats at June's house!

I took Odin over to his friend June's house this afternoon to play. They have huge blackberry overgrowth in their backyard and they want to turn it into a garden and child-friendly play-zone so they borrowed 5 goats from a friend to eat through the yard. All the kids there (June, Odin, and Ryder) had tons of fun playing with each other and feeding the goats. It was great fun!

Tumble Class!

Today around 6pm we took Odin to a tumbling class for kids his age. Its a big, fun room with the whole floor padded full of things to climb on and jump over. A teacher showed him things like cartwheels, somersaults, balancing, and all kinds of fun stuff. He also made friends with this two classmates. There's a couple pictures from the class on the BeenUp2 page.

Odin's potty training has been going really well; if he doesn't have a diaper on (which will be more frequent as the summer days get hotter) then he wont go unless he's at his potty. He even knows how to dump his potty into the real toilet and flush and then wash his hands. Tonight he fell asleep watching a movie with us and didn't have a diaper on so we're going to put him to bed like that. We think that by not having a diaper on, he'll subconsciously know he's not supposed to go yet, just like when he's awake, and maybe he can hold it until he gets up (which will be the first thing we take him to do as soon as he's out of his crib). It may be a long-shot, but the worst that can happen is that we need to wash his sheets. Every kid wets the bed.

Happy Mothers' Day!

To all those mothers out there, happy you day!

And in other news, mother's day has another significance for our family; we are having another child!

Alyssa is about 17 weeks right now and the baby is due October 14th. We'll be finding out the gender June 3rd. I took my time posting it to the blog because I was telling family personally and I wanted to wait for the official announcement until we'd found out the gender, which I had thought would be at our appointment last Wednesday but apparently it's too early so I just figured I'd do it now. I hope for and think it's a girl, but I will be happy with a boy as well. Odin knows there's a baby in Mommy's tummy, and he likes to talk to it and feel her stomach. We're very excited.

Odin's swim classes have been going quite well; he loves the water and he seems natural in it (takes after his dad), and the public pool we take him too features "dive-in movies" where they play movies or cartoons on a big projector while everybody swims.

Alyssa has been busy with her 4-movement composition for her recital coming up on the 26th. (Anyone is invited if they'll be in Eugene that evening.) It's taxing because of the way her scribing program exports each individual instrument, but she'll have it done by tomorrow so they can begin rehearsals.

I've been neglecting my homework, but I managed to pass both my mid-terms so it can't be that bad.

Anyway, we're going to pick up Alyssa from her lab time in a little bit so we can all go to a mothers' day lunch. I should finish cleaning our room and Odin and I will be making her a card!

2-year checkup

We took Odin to the doctor yesterday for his 2-year checkup to find out that he is a very healthy, advanced, and amazing little boy. (We already knew all that.) His percentiles were a little low (5 for height and 35 for weight) but Dr. Dzubay said that was normal, especially considering how long it took me to grow when I was a kid. They gave him a shot and the little trooper didn't even flinch. No crying or anything.

In about an hour we're taking him to "mommy and me" swimming lessons. Alyssa will be in a pool with him and he'll learn to swim!
