OBF symposium

I guess it's not open to the public. So nevermind. :(

OBF Composers' Symposium

Alyssa is having a piece performed in the Oregon Bach Festival Composers' Symposium. It is called "A Fate Forsaken" and is a sequel to "An Odyssey" played at her Composition Recital earlier this year. Unfortunately, the notice is rather short (I am repeatedly impressed with the coordinator's organizational and administrative skills) and it is scheduled for For Wednesday, July 1st (tomorrow) at the Beall Concert Hall at 10am. There will be other performances besides hers, of course. If you're in the area and want to attend, come on over. I'm not sure what the admission price is, or if it's free, but it will be very cool.

Sick

Alyssa and I got the vomiting virus that Odin had and both went to the ER unable to stop throwing up everything we'd eaten and then yellow bile when there was nothing left. Luckily, they pumped us full of fluids and sent us home with some anti-nausea meds. Odin is fine now, and we are doing much better.

Really sick

Poor Odin is really sick right now.

He had been having diarrhea for a while and we thought it was the introduction of new foods that he was allergic to. We made a doctor appointment for today and this morning, though he hadn't had anything but water (he wasn't hungry for some reason), he threw up a bit. Then when we got him out of the car at the doctor's office, he did another 3 times, all clear like water because that was all he'd had. We took him in and she said it was nothing serious and ordered the blood test for food allergies we had requested. He had his blood drawn without even a fuss, he watched them poke his arm and draw it out and thought it was really cool. When we got home, we fed him a tiny bit and he threw up a few more times so now he's home with Alyssa while I'm in class (I'm writing this during the half-time break), and we're not giving him anything for a little while.

On the plus side, his potty training is going well. He has had the last 5 nights without wetting the bed and he's been wearing underwear for a few days instead of diapers. We only have accidents if he gets distracted by toys or something, otherwise he remembers to tell us he has to go and every morning I take him out of bed and he says he needs to pee so we do. He's even started using the toilet for his bowel movements.

I'm getting a text from Alyssa that says he's getting worse so I better go call her....

Potty Training

Odin is having a hard time with his potty training right now. Its hard to explain, but basically he just wont do it right now. We've got a number of reasons why, and a few solutions, but for now we're going to back off and focus on getting his bed-time routine back to what it was so he's sleeping good.

Music

For those of you who wanted to know, yes we did get the mp3 recordings of Alyssa's four-movement composition "An Odyssey" at her recital. I'm just looking for a way to put them online for the moment, but if you want a copy, just email me and I'll get you one. (If you don't have my email, comment this post with yours (or your address) and I'll send it to you.)

Potty Training

Well, yesterday Odin went number 2 in his potty again. We didn't even ask him to, he just did it on his own. We've been letting him run around the house without a diaper on and it's gotten the idea into his head that if he has to pee he should do it in the potty, we don't ever have any accidents. This is the second time he's pooped in there so we think that now he has the idea that he doesn't have to hold it until he gets a diaper on so that's good.

He's fine

So we got him all checked out, the doctor said it didn't look like anything serious and after observation on meds that helped his nausea and fever, they said we could just take him home and watch him. Of course, now he's running around the clubhouse at our apartment playing with all the toys like he's been fine this whole time, but that's Odin for you.

In other news, I have another name for consideration for our new daughter: Boudica. Alyssa's "step-brother" James recommended this name to us, for the Celtic War Queen found in the history of Europe and Rome. I like this name; it goes well with Aska (we decided early on that our boys would take the surname Hasson and our girls would be Aska, since both Alyssa and kept our surnames when we got married).

ER trip

I'm sitting at a guest computer at Sacred Heart because we had to take Odin to the ER.

He had felt tired and asked to cuddle and go to sleep around 8:30, early for him, so we let him. Then at 10:30 we were going to move him to his bed but noticed he was really warm. His temperature was 103.5 under his arm so we took him in and he threw up a lot in the car on the way. Alyssa is with him in the room right now while I get them some food. He seems better but the doctor hasn't seen him yet....

It's a Girl!

Today we went in for an ultrasound at 2pm and found out that the baby we are having is a girl! We're really excited to be having a daughter and we got some great pictures from the ultrasound. It's so weird to think that we're having another baby, and weirder to think that we're having a daughter, but we're really happy and can't wait to meet her! I've already started thinking of names; Aliera is at the top of the list, followed closely by Kiera and Adrea. (Yes, that's Adrea, like Andrea without the "n" so it isn't a typo.)

When we got home, Odin pooped in his potty for the first time! He just sat there and took care of business! We were so proud of him we tried on some underwear and walked to the Chevron to get him some victory snacks, but he peed in the underwear. Hehe.
